On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation we are called, individually and collectively, to take time to learn, engage and commit to the complex work of restoring and enhancing the unique relationship with Indigenous Peoples. We share the responsibility of fostering good relations and working to excel at uplifting our communities. TPBC has launched an Indigenous Peoples relations program designed to showcase for Indigenous Peoples the many education and career opportunities in engineering and applied science technology. We will profile Indigenous Peoples who are in a tech career… who are leading initiatives to engage youth and support training to build great careers for Indigenous Peoples.
TPBC thanks people like Dawn McGrath who spoke at an Indigenous-led conference, Gathering Our Voices, convened in 2025 in Kamloops. A member of the TPBC Board, Dawn and the full Board believe that the work we perform every day is done with open hearts, open minds and for the well-being of all.
TPBC CEO spoke with Susan Aglukark this past weekend in Gibsons. “I had the opportunity to hear Susan Aglukark share her story… her truths… and her music., enthused John. It was heart-warming and tragic at the same time. It was an awesome experience to hear Susan talk about her family’s experiences, learn about her grandparents and their ways and the contrast between her grandparents and her parents and her experiences when living in a ‘settlement’. Susan did not live the traditional ways of the Inuit. Susan is a great speaker, story-teller and leader working to reveal truths… help us all engage in reconciliation… and build up all our people and communities.” John purchased Susan’s book ‘KIHIANI’, and looks forward to learning more about Susan’s journey.
BUILD BETTER BC Recommendation:
That all British Columbians engage, individually and collectively, in reconciliation in a manner that suits our path and that is focused on all peoples and their communities.
